To transform a 100-year-old house into a modern, healthy, and spacious home for a growing family, we expanded the original 107 m² footprint to 197 m² and added a carport. We also renovated a rundown shed, turning it into a family “man cave” that now serves as a dedicated hangout space for the teenagers.

The project began with stripping the home back to its framing and rafters, including removing a small 1970s extension. All of the cladding was taken off, except for one original section around the front bay window. We then poured a new foundation designed to match the look and character of the one laid a century ago. After framing the extension, we seamlessly tied the new structure into the existing house.

Inside, all original framing was straightened and packed to suit completely updated insulation throughout every room. New gib, doors, and a ducted heating system were installed, followed by beautifully tiled bathrooms and showers, we also carefully protected and restored the original Rimu floorboards in the hallway. They now look incredible and create a stunning first impression as soon as you open the front door. One of the standout features is the homeowner’s decision to have the original leadlight glass double-glazed and reinstalled into new UPVC windows—an incredible blend of heritage charm and modern comfort.
